Now for our weekly thought from our guidance department:

Next week, let's focus on getting to know our classmates better.

Our quote is: “There are no strangers here--only friends we have yet to meet.” by William Butler Yeats

Next week, let’s look for opportunities to make new friends. We can greet people in class and in the halls.  We can smile, reach out to new students, and make a point of making new acquaintances.  Watch what a difference it makes in your feelings about school to be friendly, to get to know some new people, and to make school a welcoming place.

Every Friday, we will be sharing some thoughts, ideas and ways for each of us to improve our daily lives and just be better people. Thanks to our counselors for putting these together for us. Today's topic is mindfulness:
Mindfulness is the idea of being present in the current moment, rather than spending time anticipating concerns, thinking about what might happen or what did happen. When was the last time you practiced mindfulness? How can you spend more time in your day practicing mindfulness?

Wednesday, Sept 9th

Happy Wednesday. Everyone did a great job yesterday with your masks and only a few reminders throughout the day needed to be made. Let's continue that pattern as we move on with the year. You MUST wear your mask unless you are seated in the cafeteria, eating your breakfast or lunch. If you are not wearing it or not wearing it properly, you will be asked by anyone on staff to fix it. Non-compliance will not be tolerated.

You also did a great job with locker visits yesterday. Thank you!  You will be allowed to go to your locker 3 times per day. You may go before school starts, before and after lunch, and at the end of the day. No other visits will be permitted. Please make sure you have what you need. Teachers will give you some time to adjust, but we need to limit the gatherings around the lockers.

Tuesday, Sept 8th

Welcome back everyone! We're so glad you are all here. While many things have changed, we will give you time to figure everything out. Please pay attention throughout the day as your teachers will be giving you a lot of information and directions today. First and foremost, you MUST wear your mask unless you are seated in the cafeteria, eating your breakfast or lunch. If you are not wearing it or not wearing it properly, you will be asked by anyone on staff to fix it. Non-compliance will not be tolerated.

The other major change is this year is locker visits. You will be allowed to go to your locker 3 times per day. You may go before school starts, before and after lunch, and at the end of the day. No other visits will be permitted. Please make sure you have what you need. Teachers will give you some time to adjust, but we need to limit the gatherings around the lockers.

All other changes will be explained by your teachers. Again, please make sure you are paying attention!

We're glad you are here and we are looking forward to a great school year!

Teachers will send emails to students as to what platform they will be using to hold these office hours, but students will have weekly access to them at this specific time. To help you all manage your time better, we have created a schedule for you to follow each week. It is important that you remain engaged in your studies and continue to communicate with your teachers.

Mondays and Thursdays- You’ll complete work for periods 1, 4, and 7

Tuesdays and Fridays-You’ll complete work for periods 2, 5, and 6

Wednesdays-Office hours and catch up any missing assignments

For the week of April 6-9, the schedule will be as follows:

Monday and Thursday- You’ll complete work for periods 1, 4, and 7

Tuesdays and Wednesday-You’ll complete work for periods 2, 5, and 6

Wednesdays-Office hours

**Please bear with us as we navigate this new style of teaching/learning. This is a new format for many of our teachers/students. We will get through this because we are #vikingstrong!**

Incentive Program
(This email was sent to students on 4/5/2020)
Hi students!

As promised, here is information on the NEW incentive program that we're doing during the school mandated shut down! This will start tomorrow!

  • Each week (besides spring break), all grade levels will receive two Google Form surveys from me that will have a question for you to answer and submit. These questions are being sent to me by your teachers, so you should know the answer or be able to look them up. Answers must be submitted by 10:00 P.M. on the day the survey was released.
  • Surveys will be sent during school hours on a random schedule throughout the school week. Therefore, you must check your email often so that you don't miss one. For example, I could send one survey on Monday at 9:00 A.M. and the next survey on Thursday at 2:00 P.M. Regardless, all grades will get two questions each week to answer and submit.
  • If you get the answer correct, your name will be entered into a drawing for the opportunity to win a $5 gift card of your choosing. Keep in mind that many businesses are closed right now, so I will do my best to get the gift card you want. So, there will be two winners from each grade, each week, for a total of six winners! All you have to do is check your email, complete the Google form with the correct answer, and be entered into the weekly drawing. Easy peasy!
  • I will draw the winning names on the weekends and post them to our MS Facebook page, the Waterloo Local School District Webpage (under the MS tab), and email the winners.
  • Bottomline, check your email daily!

Incentive Winners

Congratulations to our incentive winners for week 1!

6th grade winners: Rachel M. and Parker B.
7th grade winners: Curtis S. and Mitchell S.
8th grade winners: Paul G. and Gavin E.
