Daily Car Rider and Occasional Car Rider Information We will be using the same procedures as we did for 2nd semester of last school year for car riders.
AM DROP OFF Parents will drop students off at door #10 (up from the playground) of the elementary school. Parents should not drop students off earlier than 7:40 in the morning. Students will go to the library to wait to be dismissed to class or breakfast.
PM CAR RIDER Parents will receive car tags for each of their students. Please place the car tag in the passenger side window. Parents may start forming a line around the playground no earlier than 2:15 PM. Please leave the crosswalk to the playground OPEN. We will start calling names at 2:35 PM and then release your child to you when you reach the pick up point. The entire process takes 15 minutes at the most. Please do not line up in the lane before 2:15 PM.
DAILY CAR RIDERS Please fill out the form which will be in your first day packet if you are planning on picking up your child daily or the same days every week.
OCCASIONAL CAR RIDERS Parents who are picking up their child(ren) for just that day need to call into the elementary office by 1:45 PM and state your child's name, number, and who will be picking up the child. We will then create a list and distribute this list to the teachers daily.
EMERGENCY SITUATIONS Only in emergency situations will parents be allowed to sign out their children in the elementary office.
Parents please follow the established system by waiting in the lane in the back of the building. This is for the safety of your children. Please be patient and drive slowly.
Closed lunches to parents for First and Second Grade This year first and second graders are sharing the lunch room. There are only enough seats for the students so only these two lunch periods are closed for parents to eat lunch with their child. Thank you for your understanding.
Gradelink - Online tool for parents The Waterloo Local School District has begun to use Gradelink, an online grade program, this school year for grades 1-12. It is our hope that Gradelink will enhance our communication with you in regards to student academic progress. It's important to note that this program is another tool to assist you in monitoring your child's academic progress and is not meant to replace direct communication between teachers and parents when needed.
Our expectation is that Gradelink will be updated weekly by our teachers, provided there is information to update. Please note that it is not realistic in most cases for teachers to receive an assignment or test, grade it, and have it entered into Gradelink the same day. Grades, as seen in Gradelink, are a snapshot in time and we will continue to send home quarterly interim reports and report cards. With Gradelink, you can also configure e-mail alerts for grades. To access this information, please use the log in information sent home with your child.
SUPER VIKES - Positive Behavior System for 2011-2012 SUPER VIKES
S – Showing U – Us P – Positive E – Effort R – Repeatedly
Waterloo Elementary School staff will be implementing a new positive behavior support system this year. The staff has worked all last school year to create a system that not only clearly explains what behaviors are expected, but also to give incentives for displaying those stated behaviors. Students will be given clear directions and training on these behavior expectations along with information for parents. Students will be trained in what it means to “be” each of the listed behavior expectations in all settings of the building including classroom, hallways, playground, restroom, cafeteria, and assemblies.
Behavior Expectations
Be Respectful Be Responsible Be Cooperative Be Safe Be Kind
Teachers and students will keep track of their daily behavior in a behavior log book. There will be a sheet for each month of the school year. It is very important that students keep track of the log book because all incentives are awarded from that log. Do not lose your behavior log book. If students earn the required number of days for displaying the expected behaviors, he/she will earn the incentive for that time frame.
There will be incentives for each of the following time frames: • Weekly • Monthly • Year End Event
The reward for January is a build a snowman day. We are waiting for some snow! If we do not get any, we will put in alternative reward for the month of January.
The reward for February is Beach Wear Day which will take place on March 2. Students need to earn 17/19 green days or 89% to be eligible for the reward.
